Kamaole Sands Owner’s Wireless Router Set-Up Guidelines


In order to minimize wireless interference and provide security amongst the various owners’ units, these guidelines are recommended and should work best within the interior of the unit. Set-up the wireless router as follows:

1. The wireless broadcast SSID should be the owner’s unit number, for example, 5-204, 9-410, etc. If your wireless router will not accept the hyphen character, then use the underscore character, for example, 5_204, 9_410, etc. The SSID is the name or id of your wireless router. If you are an owner that rents out the unit, your guests will know from this SSID to use your unit’s wireless router for Internet service.

2. The owner’s wireless router must have security enabled. Please use the WiFi Protected Access (WPA) or WPA2. The WPA encryption protocol is much more secure and robust over the older version Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). The owner will need to create a security pass key or phase. A strong encryption key would be at least 10 characters long using capital letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. Record this encryption key as you will need it for yourself and guests who use your wireless router.

3. The wireless router has 11 frequency channels. Normally, the default channel is Ch 6. Within the wireless set up on the router, the owner can change the frequency channel via the router’s web page (see user manual). A table of frequency channels based on the owner’s floor number and stack number is shown below. As an example, if you are the owner of 5-204, then 5 is the building #, 2 is the floor # and 04 is the stack #. Your frequency channel is Ch 10. (The italicized number represent the frequency channel numbers.)

4. The wireless router should be centrally located in the Owner’s unit for best wireless.
